This information page for School Teachers provides details of cricket activities supporting the National Curriculum, which we can offer to Infant, Primary, Junior & Secondary Schools.

Jon is a fully accredited and very experienced ECB Qualified Level 3 Cricket Coach who has attended all of the required training to be able to coach in Schools.

Over recent years
Jon has worked very closely with Teachers at Infant, Primary, Junior and Secondary Schools to coach and encourage the playing of cricket. As word has spread, the number of Schools where we coach has expanded, and we now have coaching contracts in place to coach at 60 different Schools in our local area each year!

Year 1 through to year 10 - we now have experience of dealing with EVERY age group of School Child, and we also have experience of working with all kind of Teachers - from those who have never picked up a cricket bat right up to those who are Specialist Secondary School PE Teachers with a good level of cricket knowledge.

We are delighted that our work within Schools has grown to this extent, and as an amusing aside, we now get accosted when we are out shopping for groceries by children of all ages who point at Jon & shout "Look Mum, that's our Cricket Man"

Every session we run at a School will try to include 2 main things:

  • Opportunities for the Participants to have fun playing cricket
  • Opportunities for Teachers to develop additional skills, confidence & ideas - to help them to continue to play cricket after we have gone.

Hard as it might be to believe, we work best part of a year ahead for diary bookings. That said, we will always try to fit in special requests from Schools where we can - so if you would like to discuss us undertaking some work at your School, then please do make contact with us. Jon's diary is always booked on a first come first served basis, and below is an outline of the activities for a typical year.....................
  • Infant & Primary School Kinder Cricket - from Autumn right through to July, culminating in an annual Infant & Primary Schools Kinder Cricket Competition for year 1 & year 2 children.
  • Primary & Junior School Kwik Cricket (for year 5 & 6 children) - from February through to Whit - with a series of Kwik Cricket competitions open to boys & girls in all Primary & Junior Schools, as well as a further Kwik Cricket competition run exclusively for year 5/6 girls.
  • Any Primary / Junior School within Allerdale can take part in either (or both) of these competitions!
  • After School Clubs continue to be one of the most "in demand" aspects of our work - all year round. With only 5 days of the week, we're really sorry but we are already fully booked for After School Clubs for the whole of the 2011-12 academic year.

Some of the coaching we offer costs Schools nothing at all! - If you are interested in finding out what we can do for YOUR School, then please make contact with us!

Our diary is always booked on a "first come first served" basis, so please do make contact with us if you would like to discuss activities for your School.

We really will try our best to help you.

Over 120 smiling faces - a real delight to see!

Some comments about our coaching in Schools:

“Thanks again for coming to work with Unit 2, you are one of our favourite visitors! The children have made great progress, have loved the cricketing skills taught and your teaching has greatly helped me as a teacher. I do hope the training will continue next year.
We are looking forward to the tournament.
See you in the summer!"
Mrs Ann Kirk - Year 2 Teacher - Kirkbride School.

“Jon has been an outstanding coach. He has managed to inspire our children and their development over the past few weeks has been excellent. They always look forward to Jon coming, and I can thoroughly recommend him to you."
Barry Dickinson – Head Teacher Richmond Hill Primary School, Aspatria.

“Step by step Jon developed the children's skills in all aspects of the game - giving them all new confidence and enthusiasm for cricket and all sport."
David Cornwall – Head Teacher St. Matthew’s CE Junior School, West Newton.

Have fun. Play cricket.
